Aunt Polly's Buttermilk Pancakes

3 eggs - separated- beat whites until stiff and set aside
beat yolks well - add pinch salt
1/2 c flour mixed with
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 c butter milk

Fold ingredients into egg whites (mixer maybe used at low speed)
Spoon onto griddle in the usual way.
Makes a high pancake.  We like them that way.  Spread batter with back of spoon if thinner pancake is desired.

Ellen's Pecan Pie

3 eggs
1/2 c brown sugar
1 c light Karo syrup
1/3 c melted butter
1 tsp butter
1 c pecans broken in half
1 tsp vanilla
1 unbaked 9 inch pastry shell

Mix all ingredients together, except pecans.  Add pecans last.
Pour into pastry shell.
Bake 400 degrees for 30 - 35 min.



GrandMary's Anti Deer Spray

Mix and strain:
1 egg beaten
1/2 c milk
1 Tbl cooking oil
1 Tbl liquid dishing washing detergent
A few shakes of tabasco sauce

After straining Add to 1 gallon container filled with water.

Fill hand sprayer and spray plants.
Spray after it rains.

GrandMary's Bon Bon's

1/2 c soft butter
3/4 c 10x sugar or 1/2 c brown sugar packed
1 Tbl vanilla
1 1/2 flour

Add cream if too dry.
Food coloring in dough if desired.
1 sq. unsweetened chocolate melted and 1/4c cream for chocolate dough.

Roll into a ball around a Nut, Cherry or Chocolate Chip.
Bake 350 degrees for12 - 15 minutes until set. Slightly brown.
Glaze ( sugar, water/milk and food coloring, or not)



GrandMary's Coffee Chocolate Frosting

1 stick butter
~2 c powdered sugar
~ Tbl milk
2 squares Baker's chocolate melted
~ 1/2 cap - 1 cap vanilla
1 tsp instant coffee

Beat butter till smooth.
Mix in powdered sugar till blended followed by the rest of the ingredients.
Taste and add sugar etc. 'till it tastes good.




Grandma Huber's Rum Balls

2 c vanilla waffer crumbs
1 cpecan meats chopped
1 c 10x sugar
2 Tbl coco
2 Tbl white corn syrup
1/3 c rum or brandy

Combine.
Shape into balls.
Roll in 10x sugar 2 times.
Store in tightly covered container.




Grandma Huber's Russian Tea Cakes

1 c oleo (butter)
1/2 c confectioner's sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 1/4 c flour
1 c nut meats finely cut
1 tsp vanilla

Mix with hands - roll into balls.
Bake 350 degrees until lightly browned.  Cool.
Roll in confectioners sugar.

Grandma Klein's Icebox Cookies

2 c brown sugar
2 eggs
1 c melted butter
3 c flour
1 c walnuts chopped
1 tsp baking soda

Mix in order.
Refrigerate overnight.
Slice thin.
Bake 350 degrees, 8 min.



Grandma Klein's Fruit Cake

1c brown sugar
1 or 2 eggs
1 c shortening
1 c sour milk
1 tsp soda
1/2 c molasses
3 c flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
pinch of cloves
1 c chopped raisins
1 c currents
1/2 c citron
1 container red cherries for fruit cake
1 container green cherries for fruit cake
Any other Fruit or Nuts
Brandy or Rum extract, sweeter than rum or brandy which also can be used.

Mix wet ingredients together in a mixer.  Add flour with spices.  Fold in fruit and nuts.
Bake 275 degrees for 3 hours in a round spring form pan greased and lined with wax paper. Do not over bake.

Grandma Klein's Christmas Cookies

2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
3 eggs
Cream together
1 cup milk
1 tsp. soda
Mix together to make sour milk, set aside.
5 small cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
Dash of nutmeg
Sift dry ingredients together.
Alternate mixing dry ingredients and milk with the creamed ingredients. Use an electric mixer.
Spoon half the dough onto plastic wrap.  Folding and shaping into a thick square. Repeat with remaining mixture. Freeze overnight.  Remove a package from the freezer and cut a quarter and put the rest back into the freezer.  Roll out the dough on a floured rolling cloth with cloth sleeve on a rolling pin or a cold marble rolling pin.  Use cookie cutters.  Bake at 350 until slightly brown on edges.  3 min. depending on thickness.  Remove from cookie sheet and put on rack.
Frost with butter cream frosting.
decorate with colored sugars, tweezers optional!
